Getting Rid of the Fears and the Anxieties about Mental Health Disorders and their Treatments.
How?
First teach what is known, for knowing itself lessens anxiety. Second diagnosis & treat based on individual needs &response.
Introduction to the series” I want you to know what I know.”
Mental Health Problems that Shouldn’t be Missed and their Treatments
The primary focus of this series is on common biologically based mental health problems , many of which start in childhood, that should not be missed, because diagnosis and adequate treatment at the earliest age offers the most hope for symptom relief, remission, and prevention of relapses and complications.
Treatment for these biologically based problems often require medication, and sometimes medication may be essential, but should be used with appropriate education and psychosocial interventions, and only after appropriate medical and psychiatric evaluation.
The greatest obstacles to evaluation and treatment are fears of what it means to have a mental health problem and fears about negative effects of medication used for these problems. The goal of this series is to dispel these fears by teaching you what I know. As you begin to know what I know about these problems the unknowns will be made more understandable and inaccurate information will be corrected.
I have chosen three areas to primarily discuss because I believe their understanding will make you an informed and enlightened consumer, so you can better help yourself, and provide your mental health professional with information that will facilitate treatment and diagnosis. The areas are 1. Diagnosis on two levels, first knowing what the descriptive label stands for and secondly to develop a biochemical understanding that should guide medication management, 2. a simplified approach to Practical Clinical Psychopharmacology giving your some basic information about the medications and their management, and 3. an introduction to "Applied Clinical Mindfulness" which any one can learn to use on their own to aid diagnosis and as an adjunct to other treatments.
The series “I want you to know what I know.” Is only a guide to help you understand, not a substitute for seeking help for yourself or others with qualified health care practitioners.
