U.S. History . . . (SDC...self-contained)

This is an SDC U.S. History class that I taught for a few years. By SDC this refers to a "special day class" or a self-contained class. The SDC classes in California are designed to work with students who are not at the level to be in a regular education class, with support (a.k.a. Resource Students), but students who are not low enough to work on basic skills. These Special Day Class (SDC) students are in the middle of this spectrum; they can master many of the academic standards, but need more time and more support. Where I have taught, the focus is on teaching the content that all the other students are learning, but to do it on a slower pace, and reduced standards; focusing more on key standards. Although I have a Special Education credential and only had to pass the CSET (California Subject Examinations for Teachers) Mulitple Subjects test. In order to be "highly qualified" to teach English or Social Sciences according to No Child Left Behind (NCLB), I had to take the CSET for English and Social Sciences. I passed the English and Social Sciences tests, (but not the science). Therefore I feel that my level of knowledge of the curriculum in those areas is adequate, and improving.

The pace of this class is a little slower, and the content does not delve as deep as the regular education U.S. History class, but it goes through the standards pretty well. Since this class was a few years ago, and I only taught for one year where I have a lot of files for it, some of the resources may be better than others, but you will hopefully be able to find some useful Powerpoints and lessons to help in this Special Education U.S. History class (SDC).

In addition to the resources that I created in the folders below, I also have folders of work that were shared with me by very generous general education teachers to help me make this class happen. Below you will see a folder called "Lots of Additional Resources". In there you will not only find folders with lessons and powerpoints from very generous general education teachers, you will also find a lot of good Powerpoints and PDF's from the textbook that we used. Good stuff.

This resource is more complete than some of the others I have. An example is the "Semester Plan" is 42 pages on a Word Doc that goes over the day by day of the class. I didn't edit it, so I hope I didn't write weird stuff o.O
