In the 93rd year of the Chislehurst May Queen, Evie Doolin was crowned May Queen, accompanied by her Prince, Millie Bentley.
Thanks to everyone who attended and supported, with money, hard labour or applause for making it such a memorable day!
Following the Crowning Ceremony the Retinue and Band retried to the traditional tea party at Chislehurst Methodist Church.
Following a procession along Chislehurst High Street (thank you to the local police for keeping the traffic at bay) led by the fabulous Surrey & Sussex Drum & Bugle Corps and by Nick Doolin (the father of this year's May Queen), a Star Wars influenced fancy dress competition saw Darth Vader triumph.
Our local MP, Bob Neill, and the society's President, Vera Quinn, presented the medals to the retinue. This was followed by the performance of the four traditional May Pole dances (thank you to Elise Bradley and Eve Gilbert for instructing the dancers this year.) The Morris Minors from Eltham College added a traditional display of Morris dancing to the proceedings; and All The Arts provided more contemporary dance performances for the May Queen.
