García de Noriega

Alonso García

In July 1667, Alonso García was identified as mestizo (Archivo General de la Nación México, t. 608, exp. 6, f. 392v). This indicates that Alonso was of Spanish and Indian ancestry. He either had one parent that was Spanish and one that was Indian or perhaps both his parents were mestizos.

In October 1660, Alonso García was the owner of the Estancia de San Antonio in the Sandia jurisdiction (AGN, Real Audiencia, Concurso de Peñalosa, Vol. 3, leg. 1, no. 1, f.29v).

On May 7, 1666, the following information was recorded when a statement by Alonso García was recorded” llamarse el Cap[ita]n Alonso garcia de estado casado con Teresa Varela y natural de la ciudad de Zacatecas vecino de la jurisdiction de Sandia de edad de quarenta años poco mas o menos,” “his name is Captain Alonso García married with Teresa Varela and [is a] native of the City of Zacatecas, tax-paying citizen of the jurisdiction of Sandia, 40 years of age.”

With these four records, we have the known information about the origin of Alonso García. He was a mestizo who was born circa 1626 in the City of Zacatecas. He was married with Teresa Varela and resided in the jurisdiction of Sandia.
