Indian Paintbrush on the slope---December 29th!

Or at least that's what we thought when we saw this Indian Paintbrush flowering on the 29th of December in Yosemite at about 5,500 feet.

This was at the base of Ribbon Falls, just to the West of El Capitan on the North Wall of the Valley--and admittedly, it was getting a lot of sun.

But on December 29th?

And as you can see from the photo, it was not alone. There were plenty of flowers in bloom in what used to be the dead of winter.

Makes you wonder what summer is going to be like.

With California's long history of drought, we can only ask that you all pray for rain...and snow, and sleet.
