ABOUT US

As far as I can remember, I've always heard stories and rumors about the extension of Autoroute 73. This project has been in the air for years. From 1992 to 2007 the end of Autoroute 73 was in St.Joseph. In November 2007, a new exit was finally added at the southern end of a new 6-mile extension of that highway.

The latest Federal Government investment for Autoroute 73 and Route 173 helped to finalize the highway for good. Another investment has been allocated to the twinning of the existing 2-lane roadway further north. An extra extension has been added up to Route 204 within St-Georges too. These were great news but the wait has been so long...

From Beauceville the project has been separated into 3 separate work zones, two of which are under completed in 2013 and 2015. Autoroute 73 was then opened between the village of Notre-Dame-des-Pins and Route 204 in St-Georges but a missing link remained in Beauceville...

Finally on September 30, 2016, that missing link was completed and opened, ending a 46-year wait to see a four-lane highway between St-Georges and Quebec City.

It's frustrating to wait so long just to get a few miles of highway built... This should have been done 25 years ago! It's frustrating that everywhere else, highways have been developed 40 years ago. Waiting for so long to complete this project made things more complicated and way more costly than it would have been if done right and quickly the first time. Our governments have been too slow and ignored the need to act quickly to complete our inadequate road system.

The purpose of this website was originally to follow the project of extending Autoroute 73 (Highway 73) in the Beauce region. With the project done, we'll track the history of it but we'll be following the talked-about possibility of extending Highway 73 further south of St-Georges, possibly to Maine. We have information, pictures, links, news, pages about major Roads, highways and Border stations from Beauce to Maine. Thank you for visiting!
