The Record Selective feature can be used to add-in a partial scene to the current live scene. For example, you might have an existing scene record on a slider with all white lights and you want now want to run a sequence of colored lights only on the fixtures at the rear of the stage.
One way to do this would be to make a new scene for each of the steps in the sequence. Each of these step scenes would have the front fixtures as white and the rear fixtures in each of the various patterns of the sequence. You could then make record a sequence of each of these step scenes. If this was all you wanted to do, you are done.
But now suppose you want to use this same sequence of the rear fixtures with another setting of the front fixtures. You could make another set of step scenes with the new front fixture configuration and then use these to create a sequence. But these is a better way with Record Selective.
To do the with Record Selective, first make a set of scenes for this sequence. However, only setup the rear fixtures in each scene. The setting of the front fixtures will not be used, so their state does not matter. After recording each of these scenes as you normally would, press DEV SEL then select all of the rear features but none of the front fixtures, press REC SEL.Do this for each of the scenes in the sequence. Next make record a sequence of these scenes.
Now you can bring up any static scene (e.g. front white, front blue, left stage red) and then bring up the sequence you just recorded above. You'll notice that sequence of the rear fixtures has replaced the setting of the rear fixtures from the static scene. Thus you can start with any static scene and by simply moving up the slider for this new sequence add it in.
