Mixer Quick Guide

This is a typical soundboard (mixer). Only the buttons, knobs and faders that are colored or are within colored boxes are used.

Overview

Each input (a microphone or other device) has its own channel strip. They all operate the same and the controls only effect that one channel. To start: lower the fader all the way down, make sure the L-R button is IN and the TRIM at 12 o'clock position.

MUTE button should be IN for unused channels and OUT for active channels.

The SOLO button should be OUT normally.

PAN knob should be in the 12 o'clock position. Use the EQ knobs to adjust tone after your basic sound is working. Start with them all in the 12 o'clock position. The instructions below explain in gory detail what each EQ knob does.

Level Setting Procedure

Connecting a recording device

Only 1 (usually the Left) main output jacks is used to feed the house speakers. You may connect a cable with a 1/4" mono phone plug (male) into the unused jack. The other end of the cable should match your recorder, usually 1/8" male plug. If you are using a PC to record, be sure the sound input (Control Panel → Sound) is set to Line not Microphone.
