Mount for cut-off wheel
Mounting adaptor for using cut-off disks and grinding disks in drills, drill press, and lathe
Inexpensive hand grinders from Harbor Freight company http://www.harborfreight.com are very handy but there are times when it would be convenient to use the same cut-off or grinding wheels in other tools. Recently I found that the mounting axle for these hand grinders has a standard 5/8 inch 11 turn-per-inch thread and will take a standard off-the-shelf 5/8 inch nut. This then opens the door to several projects that could use cheap hand grinder motors as the power source. But it also prompted me to make an adapter for using hand grinder disks in my drill, drill press, and lathe.
This is the finished adapter. The mounting plate is from a dead hand grinder, and the bolt is a standard 5/8 inch section of threaded rod.
I turned one end of the 5/8" THR (Threaded Rod) down to 1/2 inch diameter so it would fit in the chuck on my drill and drill press.
