Loupe Hanger
Holding that Jeweler's Loupe up to your eye without using your hands
For years I tried to find a way to hold a Jeweler's Loupe to my eye by gripping it with my eye muscles. Invariably it fell out at just the instant I needed to see what I was working on. Trying to hold it in place with one hand while working with the other hand is also a disaster because one hand for the work is just not enough.
Since I normally wear glasses, it seemed the solution would be to fasten the loupe to my glasses. I tried various glues, rubber bands, and so forth but all have undesirable problems. With glue you cannot remove just the loupe when it is not wanted. Rubber bands make it difficult to properly adjust the loupe, and you cannot readily remove, adjust, or re-attach it.
You can see from the accompanying pictures that I have finally arrived at a solution that works for me.
Here is an inexpensive Jeweler's Loupe, a 2 inch section of 3/4 inch ID thin-wall PVC pipe, and a roll of plastic electrician's tape.
I have cut a hook into the PVC pipe. There is a matching hook on the opposite side (two matching hooks on one end of the PVC tube). Why will be evident in subsequent pictures.
Now the Loupe has been fastened to the non-hooked end of the PVC pipe with electrician's tape.
And here you see the loupe hanging on a pair of my reading glasses. It can be slid right or left for best positioning, and is easily removed by just lifting the hook off the glasses frame.
