Drill Guide For Knobs
Making Your Own Knobs Can Be Fun And Easy
There are a number of readily available materials that can be used to make your own radio knobs. The usual problem is how to get that 1/4 inch hole drilled exactly in the center.
Here is one way to make sure the drill is exactly centered in your knob. Drill a 1/4 inch hole all the way through a 3/4 inch thick board. Then drill a hole to match your knob outside diameter but only half way through the board, by using the 1/4 inch hole as a guide for the larger drill.
Now you can use this guide board to insure that your 1/4 inch shaft hole in the knob stock is exactly centered in the material. A small drill press helps to keep the hole exactly vertical, but you can do the same with a square block of wood to hold the drill at right angles to the guide plate.
