How does the Dandelion seed travel?
Once it is deep in the ground what happens next?
When the leaves and stem have formed, what opens up?
What kind of insects pollinate the flowers?
When the flower dies what takes its place?
Dandelion flower time lapse
Dandelion Life Cycle Animation
Dandelion Craft
You will need scissors, glue, textas, coloured pencils, watercolour paints or crayons.
Carefully cut across the dotted line.
Colour the dandelion leaves bright green. I put a piece of corrugated card underneath the leaves when colouring to give a bumpy effect.
Cut out the leaves, trying to stay right next to the black line.
Paint or shade the sky and the grass.
Once the background is dry, glue the two leaves near the bottom of the stem.
Glue the stem of each seed onto the page. It is easier to put the glue on the faint grey line then push the toothpick onto the glue.
Last step is to pull out a small piece of a cotton ball, roll it up tight, then glue it to the top of the toothpick.
Take a photo to share with Mrs Ishak.
When you are playing outside, riding your bike or going for a walk around the neighbourhood, keep your eyes out for Dandelion plants or the seeds. Next week we are going to do an activity with a real seed.
Would you like to have a garden snail as a pet?
What would you call it?
Are there any special vegetables you would let it eat?
Have you seen a snail in your garden?
Are snails insects? No, they belong to the Molluscs - Gastropod family. They have a soft body with no legs. They do have a shell though, that grows with the snail.
What are the two reasons snails have slimy mucus?
What is the biggest snail in the world called? Where is it found?
Are NOT insects.
Have a muscular foot
Have eyes on long stalks
Have slime (mucus)
Some other gastropods are slugs that live on land like the banana slug and sea slugs.
