Crickets & Grasshoppers
The Very Quiet Cricket
Listen to this lovely story by Eric Carle
There is a special surprise at the end.
True or False?
A retelling of the classic Aesop fable.
Ant and Grasshopper have very different ideas about how to spend the summer.
The Very Quiet Cricket
Craft
Ask an adult to loosely cut the 2 leg sections away from the body section.
Carefully cut around the outside of the black line. Do not cut off the wings.
Cut out the leg sections. Push the two split pins through the holes from the front then flip your cricket over and push the pins through each leg as above.
Fold each wing on the dotted line then fold again the reverse way to make the wings sit up.
Colour his mouth and if you have green glitter, you might like to add some on the wings.
If you have some pipe cleaners/chenille sticks at home you might like to add these for antennae. You could paste them on top of the existing ones.
Twig by Aura Parker
A lovely story about finding friends.
NOTE TO PARENTS - This is a great book but quite a long video. At school we would read this book over two days. It is simple enough to understand but the children may need to watch it twice or in parts.
Watch the bees in the lavender taking nectar from the flowers.
NOTE: this will require adult assistance.
Honey Bubble Bars - recipe

Put the butter, brown sugr and honey in a saucepan and melt them over a low heat. Stit until the sugar is dissolved. Add the rice bubble to the butter mixture. Press into the pan. Allow the mixture to cool until it is firm. Cut into pieces.
Enjoy!!
Have a go at making up a dance to the Bizzy Buzzy Bee Bop.
Colour the pieces to match the sample
Cut out the pieces. Be careful to stay on the outer edge of the thick black line.
Paste/tape the wings just behind the body.
Optional Activity: Print out the page and try and make the wings symmetrical.
This book, like The Flower, looks at the way plants, insects and people interact.

I read this on our Wednesday Zoom last week and was asked by Eve if I could record it and put it on the site.
Hope you enjoy this story.
