Reflective end of activity questions
This session session includes the ‘Choosing the Right University P2’ presentation, which covers lots of information including:
An activity you will guide your mentees through where they will rank aspects of university life that are important to them
Where to find trusted sources of information about universities
There are more notes and prompts in the presenter notes, so please ensure you familiarise yourself with these before your session.
This session includes the 'Ranking Table' activity. Either share your screen with your mentee to work through the activity or upload it to the session so that your mentee can download it.
Work with your mentee to look at the table of statements and place these into three categories - what matters to me ‘most’, ‘somewhat’, and ‘less’ - when considering your university experience.
Then, look at the statements they have placed into the ‘matters to me most’ category and rank these in order of importance.
Depending on how long you have, you could give this to the student for optional homework to bring back to next session to discuss what they’ve found. Please download and make a copy to share with your mentee.
This ‘Decision Making Matrix’ is designed to help your mentee to decide which university best matches their needs. The idea is that they enter their choices of university in row 17 and the factors important to them in column B. In column C they rank these factors on level of importance. They then score each university of each factor and the matrix will generate an overall score for them. The university with the highest score is the university that is the most suitable for them based on their scores.
