What a fantastic, action-packed start to the academic year it has been! Our Business, Finance, and Economics students have successfully navigated major assessments, deep-dived into core commercial concepts, and even engaged with the Bank of England. We are immensely proud of the hard work and resilience shown by every cohort.
Our new Business Studies students have wasted no time getting to grips with the commercial world!
They successfully completed Topic 1.1 (Enterprise), exploring how entrepreneurs embrace risk and reward to add value and meet customer needs. This built perfectly into Topic 1.2 (Spotting a Business Opportunity), where they mastered market research techniques—including gathering some excellent primary research for their recent project—and learning how market segmentation identifies those all-important gaps in the market.
What’s Next? Mastering the Money!
Following promising grades in their end-of-topic assessments, Year 10 is now moving into the crucial financial module: Topic 1.3 (Putting a Business Idea into Practice). They’ll be tackling:
Setting smart Business Aims and Objectives (survival, profit, independence).
Calculating Revenue, Costs, and Profit/Loss.
Crucially, mastering the Break-Even Point and interpreting Cash-Flow Forecasts—the lifeline of any new business!
We are laying the foundation for financially savvy decision-makers!
Our Year 11 students have completed the bulk of their GCSE content, finishing Theme 1 and the entirety of Theme 2!
They’ve covered Topic 2.1 (Growing the Business), learning the difference between organic and inorganic growth, the impact of globalisation, and the trade-offs involved in ethical and environmental decision-making. Most recently, they wrapped up Topic 2.2 (Making Marketing Decisions), becoming experts in the Design Mix, the Product Life Cycle, and how to use the integrated Marketing Mix (4Ps) to gain a competitive advantage.
Mock Success & Final Push!
We are delighted with the strong grades achieved in their recent mock exams and end-of-unit assessments. This comprehensive review of Themes 1 and 2 has given us precise data to fill any gaps in knowledge and address misconceptions over the next few weeks.
With exams approaching (Paper 1: May 11th, Paper 2: May 21st), our goal is to complete content by Module 3, allowing the remaining time to be dedicated entirely to skills development and intensive exam practice.
Year 12s have started strong, almost completing Unit 8 (Recruitment and Selection). They’ve prepared crucial documents and participated in mock interviews as both interviewer and interviewee, developing analytical and professional skills that will significantly help their careers. They are now transitioning into the highly practical Unit 3 (Personal and Business Finance), a superb module for understanding both personal money management and foundational accounting.
Year 13s are working diligently to wrap up Unit 3 (Personal and Business Finance) ahead of their exam on January 12th, 2026. Good luck, you’ve got this!
Year 12s have taken to the rigorous course exceptionally well. After mastering Unit 1 (Introduction to Business Management), they are deep into Unit 3 (Finance and Accounts), covering everything from financial ratios to investment appraisal.
Year 13s have been working incredibly hard, completing their full set of mocks (Papers 1, 2, and 3). They are currently focused on the final submissions of their Internal Assessments (IAs), with the deadline rapidly approaching. This cohort shows immense promise, and we are aiming for content completion by Module 3 to focus solely on perfecting exam technique.
We were thrilled to host Alistair Thomas from the Bank of England recently for a talk with our P16 students across Business, Finance, and Maths. It was a hugely insightful session, and the students impressed with their challenging questions on the economy and their financial futures.
We are actively planning more school trips and inviting further industry speakers to provide real-world context and inspiration for our students.
It has been a jammed-packed few modules, but our students have excelled! We look forward to continuing this positive momentum and preparing everyone for success in their summer exams!
