The start of this academic year has been fantastically busy, with a wealth of events and opportunities for our students to engage in; literacy events, and cultural and sporting opportunities as well. It has been really heartening to see how well our Year 7 tutor groups have settled into life at Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy. Years 8 to 11 have aso made a great start to the year, amassing a fantastic number of rewards and merits for a plethora of reasons!
It has been lovely to meet a number of parents across Years 7 and 11 face to face, at our information and parent evenings.
In Module 2, we had our service of Remembrance, and have celebrated the Module 1 successes of our Mandela students with our League of Excellence and reward assemblies.

League of Excellence Award Winners for Module 1
In November, we celebrated the achievements of the Mandela students across all year groups with our Module 1 League of Excellence awards. These awards take into consideration, attendance and positive and negative behaviour points to give each student an overall score. The award winners for each year group and across the whole college can be seen below:

In addition to these fantastic year awards, huge congratulations to Aarush, Amalya, and Gabriel who achieved the highest scores in the whole college, and also to Maryam, Maham and, Seyi who have achieved the highest literacy scores in the college to date. We would also like to congratulate the 124 students that have 100% attendance so far this academic year.
Celebrating Mandela successes beyond the academy
We continue to enjoy celebrating the successes of our students outside of the academy as well. Congratulations must go to Samuel for becoming the Kent League Cross Country Champion, in what has been a very competitive season in his age category! He was also the highest placed Kent athlete at the recent Intercounties Event that took place in Greenford recently.
We would also like to congratulate Brooke who took part in a charity fundraiser for the Wooden Spoon charity, that saw her doing 50 passes everyday for a year (18250 in total!), host a quiz night, a raffle and guessing how many sweets in the jar. This was a fantastic achievement, and the charity awarded her Volunteer and Fundraiser of the year! The Wooden Spoon charity helps to support children with disabilities or other vulnerabilities.
Our students wore their cadet uniforms with pride at our annual Remembrance event this year. Thank you to Logan, Bobbie, Dolly, and Ava for your brilliant contribution to our wonderful service. Further afield, Lucian and Braeden marked their 5th year of volunteering for the Royal British Legion on an RBL stand. 5 years is an incredible achievement, and they have been awarded special certificates to mark this milestone!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a very safe Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2026.
