My idea was derived from the cluster type that I studied in Makunsar village, where every house was facing a ROAD or a PATHWAY. The orientation of houses to the road lead to formation of combination of VERVANDAHS and BACKYARDS. The engaging activity between the houses took place here. Each house had their SMALL GARDEN in their backyards. Few of them had intentional kitchen garden while some nurtured unintensional grown garden
I designed the site by integrating kitchen gardens as interactive spaces between the units, creating a continuous green environment around them. I started with a 4x4 meter grid across the site, using it to guide the layout. Each unit follows dimensions that are multiples of 4, keeping the design consistent and flexible. Green spaces were added in layers of trees, shrubs, or designated planting areas to have the essence of home.
I researched different tree types based on their size, by-products, space requirements, and the amount of foliage they provide, to choose the right ones for each designated area.
Program list and spatial organization
To create more engagement with the green spaces, I replaced solid walls with pivot doors that could open directly into the garden areas. However, the movement of these doors risked damaging nearby saplings. To maintain openness and porosity without harming the vegetation, I instead used louvered windows and doors. These allowed for filtered light, enhanced natural ventilation, and preserved the connection to the green spaces.
As we enter to the left we have clinic with neem trees surrounding it and to the right we have office surrounded with tulsi ashwaghanda and mint. As we move two blocks ahead we are greated by dining space covered by vegetables like potatoes tomatoes spinach okra and to its opposite we have fruit bearing trees like guava chikoo and custard apple with occupancy peeping from the back. Ahead you have another occupancy unit and helpers quater surrounded with floral vegetation like champa hibiscus rose lavender and periwinkle which also creates engagement with mandir through providing garlands.
