Observation from the village-
In the house we explored in the Makunsar village, the flow from public to private space was something I thought of as interesting. The verandah being the outermost space, acts as a public space that connects the home to the village and so inviting the community. Then the multipurpose room which functions as a tution place, a dining space or just a seating space which acts as a buffer zone- it is more private than verandah but still a public space making it a semi public space. Then the inner rooms and kitchen which is as a private space for the family which is away from the outside world.
Flow of Public to Private space (Lighter to Darker)
Exploring varying levels of intimacy within a space, focusing on the routines of elderly individuals, both at Makunsar village home and in old age homes.I observed on site for women, daily life revolves around more private spaces like the inner room, kitchen, and verandah, while men spend most of their time at more public areas like the gram panchayat office. The goal is to create a space that balances comfort for both.
Understanding that height differences create different intimacy of space, I thought of creating different layer at different heights.
Understanding the spatial arrangement of space with respect to the context
Iterating with form of the roof to create a equal balance of public spaces
Final Iteration-
Spatially the spaces are placed across the site depending on the context.
At the entrance next to the road is the Healthcare centre which is a public institute that is not just for the old age people but for the whole village.
Next to which is the multipurpose space that can used for celebrating different festivals, catering being the business carried on across the village this space could be utilizes by them for cooking. The space brings the village in the old age home and not isolating it from outside.
Followed by it is the Kitchen/Cooking space and the Dining area, this acts as a buffer between the public and private spaces acting as a semi public space
Then there are series of 3 bed and 4 bed sharing rooms and the staff quarters which is as whole connected through the common verandah or a pathway
All these spaces forms smaller pockets of courtyards which can be accessible to all the citizens staying there
The spaces responds to similar idea of house that was studied in the beginning of lighter to darker space being public to private space. Following that slow transition
