POCKETS
SPACES
The design is based on the concept of a village. I imagine the old age home as a village to engage elderly people and provide them with a homely environment.
While studying Makunsar village, I observed that a main pathway runs through the village, with smaller pathways branching off into different areas. These smaller pathways gradually form small pockets, creating shared spaces for 4 to 6 houses. These pockets serve as common areas where residents can celebrate festivals and participate in activities together.
Inspired by this, I designed small pockets and combined them into a larger one. The layout of the each house is influenced by the arrangement of beds, where each bed is positioned to provide a specific framed view for the occupant. A common pathway connects all areas, passing through open courtyards where residents can sit, drink tea, and spend time together.
Additionally, small courtyards connecting one or two houses create cozy spaces for relaxation, further enhancing the sense of community and belonging.
