What happens in art class?
At Sand Creek Jr/Sr High School students create art projects that typically last between five and ten days. There are multiple levels of art class within Sand Creek: Art I, II, III, and IV.
Art IV is a class that focuses on being completely independent and making their own projects, but they also have to take all three of the previous classes first. There are currently only two students in Art IV.
Art III is very similar to Art IV, but the students are given a vague topic to work with and everything else is up to the students.
Art II is the advancement of art of principles as well as introducing art history. The principles of design are taught in Art I, which is the introduction to art and the elements and principles of design. These principles include items of balance, proportion, and/or unity, while the elements of design have aspects such as line, shape, and space.
Brianne Sauers, the art teacher at Sand Creek High School, creates all of the projects for her art classes. She says, “I’m gonna be honest with you, it's a lot of Pinterest and also of Google. Sometimes I look through books, sometimes my brain’s like ooh make the thing.”
