The Miles that Matter fundraiser held by your Sand Creek Fighting Aggies Cross Country team is a run that lasts 24 hours. The entire team takes turns running so that two people are running at all times for those 24 hours. 50% of all the money that is raised goes straight to families in need of Christmas presents, 25% of this money goes to your Sand Creek Cross Country team, and that last 25% goes to decrease the cost of our runners' cross country camp.
During the 24 hour run, participants can play cornhole, hang out around the bonfire, relax in your tent, and, of course, run. The team participates in several different team bonding activities during the 24 hours, but runners’ favorite is Midnight Dodgeball. In this event, the runners have to split up into two teams in the junior high gym and battle in a couple games of dodgeball. The junior high team also contributes during the event, running in a couple of shifts, including the midnight shift so the varsity team can play dodgeball.
Faith Beardmore, a cross country senior, is a sixth-year participant in the event. She offers insight into The Miles That Matter fundraiser. All team members enlist sponsors to earn money. Beardmore reported that she raised “1,100 dollars in corporate sponsorships and about 500 in personal sponsorships.” Adding on, “It’s a good cause for families in need.” She also explained that the event is more than just an opportunity to run for charity. The best part of the event is “Being with the cross country team, bringing everyone together,” but her favorite activity is Midnight Dodgeball.
