Ms. Tenhove has been Mrs. Scheu-Millek’s student teacher for semester one. Together, they taught Junior Year English, AP English, Yearbook, and a Newspaper class. Ms. Tenhove is a student at Adrian College, and as of December 5th she will be graduated.
Ms. Tenhove has helped students in many ways, helping the seniors in AP work on their 10 page synthesis essays, helping Yearbook and Newspaper staff write articles and edit the 2024-2025 yearbook.
“It’s been incredible, I couldn’t have asked for a better teaching placement. The teachers that I have been working with, the students that I’ve had have been incredible,” explains Ms. Tenhove.
When asked if she would consider returning to Sand Creek in the future, she replied, “I would definitely consider it if something opened up down the road. There’s nothing that could make me lean against it, as of now, just through the experience that I’ve had.” Ms. Tenhove has expressed her love for this job and how upset she is that she will no longer be teaching these students with Mrs. Scheu. “I’m super excited to be able to have a spot of my own, and to be able to make my own path in the world through teaching and have my own place, but there’s always going to be something about that first job, and the first time having students every day,” she explained after being asked how she felt about leaving Sand Creek Schools.
Apart from teaching together for the past three months, Mrs. Scheu feels that she and Ms. Tenhove have grown to have a good relationship outside of the job. “She has been a wonderful person to get to know, I’ll miss her just on a personal level a lot, but also professionally just having a teacher to work with every day has been really cool, so it will be really sad to see her go,” explained Mrs. Scheu. “I feel so lucky because she does a great job, she’s very helpful, she’s taken a really big interest in being a part of the school community.”
When students were asked how they felt about Ms. Tenhove, they all had shown high respect and love for her. “I love her, she’s so sweet, she’s definitely one of my favorite student teachers that has been here,” says senior Makenna Wheeler. “I look forward to seeing her every day,” adds senior Erika Meckley. These students were asked if they felt having a student teacher has been beneficial to them for these past couple of months. “Yes, because when we need extra help, and she’s in there it really helps because the class is full and Mrs. Scheu is only one person,” says junior Audrey Thonnissen. After being asked how she felt that Ms. Tenhove was leaving, Mya Vanorden replies, “I’m going to cry, I am going to bawl my eyes out”.
Ms. Tenhove, thank you for everything you have done for us. You will forever be loved and missed here at Sand Creek.
