The Sand Creek Jr./Sr. High school students want to get the two vending machines back that were in the cafeteria in 2020.
According to building administrators, the only problem with getting vending machines back would be restocking inventory. According to Mr. Dyson, “The only problem with getting vending machines back, would be the restocking part, but we would also have to put a timer on them so that they don’t interfere with the cafeteria rules.” Michigan’s school’s can only sell food that meets the required “Smart Snacks standards,” according to Michigan.gov.
In the past the vending machines in the cafeteria only sold plastic water bottles. According to Mrs. Smith, “We got rid of the vending machines because the PTO put in water filters in the drinking fountains, so people started carrying around their own water bottles.”
Students want them back because they think that it would be a good thing for people who wake up late in the morning and forget to bring a snack to school. In this perspective, vending machines would be a very convenient way to feed hungry students.
Of the students interviewed, all reported that they wanted a blend of snacks and drinks. Eleventh grader Joseline Wilson noted that she would hope the vending machines to include “water, Cheez-Its, chips, candy bars, pop, Gatorade, or breakfast snack foods.”
