On September 9th 2024, Mrs. Jodway introduced the senior trip locations for class of 2026. There were 4 destination choices including Myrtle Beach, Hawaii, Nashville, and lastly Flordia Keys. The students were asked to vote for which one that they wanted most. Students said that even if their first vote wasn’t chosen they would still attend the trip.
Mrs. Jodway posted about a parent/student meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday November 14th at 5pm at the high school library. “The school board did approve all four of our location choices; however, they said they also want us to pick the location that the most students will be able to attend. WE CAN’T LET THEM GO THREE YEARS WITHOUT A TRIP!” said Mrs. Jodway. At the meeting, Mrs. Jodway introduced all 4 of the locations with details such as prices, what trip-goers would be doing, and how many people needed to attend. “According to the student votes from November 15-16th, 3 parents vetoed Hawaii and 2 parents vetoed Myrtle beach,” Mrs. Jodway stated.
After the meeting it was down to Myrtle Beach and Hawaii. To Attend Hawaii, with 35 people it would cost $2,497 and with 25 people it would be $2,670. Compared to Myrtle beach, 35 people would cost $2,370 and 23 people would cost $2,700, with all the meals and activities included. The trips are 5 days long, but going to Hawaii the students would lose almost 2 days of their vacation time because of the travel. Plane ride to Hawaii is 12.5 hours one way with a 2 hour overlay in California. “The school board wanted us to be able to actually do multiple daily activities and Hawaii had only one event scheduled each day, because the cost of everything is so expensive..” said Mrs. Jodway
The final vote for which place the students would be attending was posted the night of November 14th and stayed open until the 16th. “The student voted again and ended up with Myrtle Beach winning with two more votes,” said Mrs Jodway. She continued to say, “My hope is that students follow through and sign up even if their first option was not chosen. I would hate for there to be no trip at all because people cannot find a happy medium.”
More changes have occurred since mid-November. According to Mrs. Jodway, "Due to popular demand, the senior trip location has been altered to Key West/Florida Keys." This is also a positive change in terms of budget: this trip will cost slightly less than the trip to Myrtle Beach. Students planning on attending the trip must register and pay a one hundred dollar deposit.
