Do you like competitions? Do you like cheerleading? Well, then competitive cheerleading might be for you. Sand Creek decided to reopen their competitive program about three years ago. This year let’s hope the Aggie cheerleaders bring the spirit!
For those of you who may not know what competitive cheerleading is, here is a brief explanation. Competitive cheerleading is a mostly girl-dominated sport. During the season, the cheerleaders go to many different competitions where they compete in three different rounds. They get evaluated by judges on form, facials, and more. At the end of the meet whichever school has the highest score wins, then it goes down in places from there.
Now, some of you may not know what the rounds are, so let's break it down. Round one is just motions. Round two is motions and tumbling; this includes the statewide 10 count that every team has to have in the beginning of their round two. The last one is round three which is stunting.
This year's competitive team has four girls, which is two fewer than last year. The competitive coaches are Arianna Aranda and Marissa Casanova-Nichols. Coach Aranda has been on the coaching staff for the Sand Creek Competitive team for three years, and Coach Nichols has been on the coaching staff for two. Coach Aranda has previous coaching experience at Madison High School, where she coached for four years.
This year's competitive team has four meets in total. If you would like to see our fighting Aggies compete this year, the first meet is on December 21 at Onsted High School, starting at 9:00am. If you would like to participate in Aggie spirit at more of these meets, you can see the office for the schedule sheet. Let's go Aggies!
