VAPA after school rehearsals often conflict with sports practices and priority will be placed on our dedication to arts programming. If the commitment to CPMA Volleyball conflicts or does not align with your student's after school schedule please notify Coach Whitley or gceledon@sandi.net by Wednesday, Nov. 20.
Starting on 11/19: Practices are T/TH @ 2:40-4:30pm. (Only rostered students are admitted.) Game schedules will be posted here: SOCCER / VOLLEYBALL
Be on time to line-up at the Lunch Tables @ 2:40pm. No late arrivals will be accepted.
PE Locker rooms will be available after you check in for attendance with your coach. Locker room availability is earned and dependent on proper etiquette and ability to change in a safe yet timely manner. Do not leave any items in the locker rooms. They will be will only be open at the beginning of practice.
VAPA after school production rehearsals take priority over sports practice.
*Eligibility. Athletes are expected to maintain their eligibility by meeting Student Success Standards throughout the entire season. On 12/20/24 the S1 report card will be reviewed to determine a player’s eligibility status.
Late buses will be available, see routes 2024-2025.
We encourage our students to be up-standers and if they "See Something, Say Something" to reduce bullying on our campus. We investigate all instances of bullying that are reported to our school site. SDUSD Youth Advocacy and Ethnic Studies Departments is offering a brand-new student leadership opportunity for middle and high school students. The goal is to form a coalition of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students in our district to create the first-ever APIDA Board. Together, they will strengthen solidarity amongst APIDA students across SDUSD, network with local San Diego community leaders and peers, voice ideas on and shape district events and initiatives, and plan the annual APIDA Celebration in May, hosted by the district. See program YouTube video and flyer for more details. Students do not need to come from an APIDA background, as long as they demonstrate interest in learning about APIDA cultures and identities. The linked APIDA Application is due Friday, November 1st, at 11:59pm and it should take about 30-45 minutes to complete. Contact Arlene Nagtalon anagtalon@sandi.net with any questions!
Are you interested in the 8th grade trip? Check out the information here. the trip is tentatively scheduled for May 31st- June 7th. Join the meeting to learn about fundraising opportunities and trip details.

As we approach Día de los Muertos, we would love to celebrate this vibrant tradition by creating altars in our library. These altars will honor loved ones and showcase the rich cultural significance of this holiday.
Our ofrenda has been set up and is ready for photos of your loved ones! If you or your student would like to bring in a photo please feel free to do so. The library is open everyday during lunch but will be closed on Halloween. If you are interested in donating items for the ofrenda see our list HERE. Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who dropped in this Saturday to help!

Hello CPMA Community!
Thank you to those students who participated in our Wear Pink Friday for our breast cancer awareness day. It was great to see all our students coming together as a community. Our admin team is so proud of our students respectful and encouraging behavior in the PAC today for our Youth Leadership Program presentation from the Restorative Justice Department. We have over 80 students who are interested in the program to learn how to be leaders and to support their peers. We are overwhelmed with the thoughtful responses from our students and their dedication to our community.
We started Guitar Club, Orchestra Ensemble, and Hip Hop Class this week. Our students had great things to say and had so much fun. We look forward to the next weeks of these programs. The Guitar Club still has room for interested students. If you have any questions about afterschool arts please email kbourda@sandi.net.

As we approach Día de los Muertos, we would love to celebrate this vibrant tradition by creating altars in our library. These altars will honor loved ones and showcase the rich cultural significance of this holiday.
To gauge interest and gather ideas, we’re conducting a brief SURVEY. Your input will help us create a meaningful and engaging experience for everyone. The library will be open tomorrow morning from 8am to 10am to begin our community altar build. Please feel to join us! Need ideas about what to bring? Check out our list HERE!

Congratulations and a tremendous THANK YOU to our Student Lighthouse Team. On Friday 10/11 SLT kicked off our Leader in Me series in Homeroom classes by leading discussions and activities about Habit #1 "Be Proactive." They are leading the way for our whole CPMA Community to practice being Being Proactive for the month of October! This team has poured phenomenal effort, energy, and light into this team. We are excited to see them return to Homerooms throughout the year to promote and exemplify all of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens!
8th graders interested in joining the team please email Ms. Celedon, gceledon@sandi.net. Leader in Me linked details here.
As the Annual Giving Campaign comes to a close, know it is never too late to sign up for monthly giving. Every dollar, even $1.00 a month, can make a difference in a classroom. If you have already donated to The Conrad Avenue Arts Foundation (The CAAF), we applaud you!!!!!! Thank you letters will be distributed and the homeroom with the greatest participation percentage will be announced soon. The CAAF leaves you with 17 reasons* to support arts education at CPMA:
Students with an arts education are: 5X less likely to drop out of school, 4X more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, 4X more likely to receive a bachelor’s degree, and 30% more inclined to pursue a professional career.
*Reasons cited above is the product of research from by Create CA

Is gardening art? Sure is! It involves creativity in planning layouts, selecting plants for color and texture, and designing spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Gardens change over seasons and add an artistic quality. The student garden program at CPMA can use a wheelbarrow and shovels. Are you in the business? Can you help provide tools and resources to support the garden program? Students and faculty, Jeffrey Newman and Karen Anderson would be thrilled. Email dsilvagarcia@sandi.net to get connected.

Hello CPMA Community!
Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow October 4th, 2024. We will see our students back on campus Monday October 7th. If you or any of your friends and families are interested in learning about our admissions process for new families for the 2025-26 school year. Please share the "Get to Know CPMA" FLYER with your them.
Our first show of the school year is The Alibi, it is a middle school play about a detective questioning a cast of eccentric characters with absurd alibis. The play is a chaotic, hilarious detective story that unfolds through a series of interviews and reenactments. The show opens the beginning of November and is a big lift and exciting opportunity for our students and staff! This takes a village and also demands resources that we are currently not appropriately funded for. The CAAF (Conrad Ave Arts Foundation) annual giving campaign will help us fill the gap to pay for costumes, makeup, set design materials, mics, lighting design etc. Please consider starting a monthly or one time tax deductible donation HERE! Every bit helps! Also, the Homeroom with the most families signed up to donate gets a pizza party!
Thank you for your support!!! !

Mr. Newman is excited to be working with his 6th and 7th graders to get the garden up and running this year. It's mostly just weeds a dirt right now but soon it will be a flourishing garden. We will be growing lots of food and eating lot's of salads.
Besides vegetables we will also have a succulent and cactus installation. Mr. Newman is excited to be sharing his love of designing with succulents and rocks. He will be bringing in lots of succulents such as aloes and even some cactus that can produce edible fruit. When combined with beautiful rocks and stones these plants can become truly works of art when arranged with care. The 7th graders are leading the charge but the 6th graders will be out there working in the dirt soon.
If you would like more information or find out how to support the garden you can email Mr. Newman at jnewman2@sandi.net
