Headteacher Message

It's a week for congratulations as we near the end of this half term - remember, only four school days next week!

Well done to Year 6 for getting through SATs week and trying your very best - hopefully, all of your hard work and effort will be reflected in deserved results! Today, the Year group have spent a couple of hours at Southchurch Park, relaxing and playing for a while after their exertions. Thank you to the teachers and support staff who have helped out with the administration of the tests this week and for all of the support for the children throughout the year.

We also congratulate Mr Jarvis, our sports and PE teacher, who has become a father for the first time. We pray that Isla Rose, Mum and Dad enjoy the best of health and happiness!

Another of our family of staff, Mr Rivers, left us at Easter and has now published his own picture book for children, a great achievement. The book is aimed at Key Stage 1 children and younger and can be found on Amazon at https://shorturl.at/RtAXz We have some copies in school too.

Unfortunately, we have been frustrated by attempts to have some action taken regarding access to Windermere Road at drop off and pick up times, in order to help alleviate parking and traffic issues. It seems that nothing is happening imminently, despite assurances that we would have something in place by now. That being the case, I need to remind parents to be considerate to the residents in respect of the way that we park and how we interact with our neighbours and each other. Please be kind and respectful; think of others.

God bless,

Mr. Beazeley

** New School Phone Number **

We have recently upgraded our school phone system, and we now have a new main school phone number -

Stars of the Week

Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.

House Winners

This half term our house winners are Mother Teresa (blue house), the reward of a non uniform day is next Thursday 23rd May

Eco-Council Update

Can you help our garden grow?

As part of the School Action Plan to become a Green Flag Eco-School, we are working to improve all of our green spaces in school. We have made a great start but would be very grateful for any donations of cuttings,  plants or herbs. Also, if you had any unwanted garden tools we will make very good use of them!

School Library

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through Amazon.co.uk

A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.

Sacred Heart Song - BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

Year 5 pupils took part in a song writing workshop and wrote this fantastic song about believing in yourself and having faith. A great message to share with our whole school community, especially our year 6 pupils for the coming week.

What's Happening at Sacred Heart

This week St Padre Pio class reflected on our school rule 'Ready' and what it means to be 'Ready' at Sacred Heart.

The reception classes enjoyed a walk to Southchurch Hall Park and completed a scavenger hunt looking for different objects and animals.

Year 2 had a visit from a pair of chicks to link with their science topic and Milo the dog wanted to say hi to them as well.

Summer Term New Dinner Menu

Feast Day Mass and Cultural Week - 3rd-7th June

I am writing to inform you about two important upcoming events for our school Cultural Week culminating with our Feast Day Mass.

Feast Day Mass:

To celebrate the faith of our school community, we will be holding our Feast Day Mass on Friday, 7th June at 9:30am. The mass will be held on the playground; however, in the event of bad weather, it will take place in the church with Year 4-6 pupils. Please note that we kindly request all attendees to observe respectful behaviour throughout the service.

While there will be some seating available, we encourage parents to bring portable chairs if possible. Priority for seating will be given to those who require it most. Following the mass, we will be providing refreshments. To assist with catering arrangements, we kindly ask you to book your place for the mass on our online system by Monday 3rd June. Tickets are priced at £1 per person, and all proceeds will be allocated to our school fund.

Cultural Week:

From Monday, 3rd June, we will be celebrating Cultural Week. Each class will be focusing on a particular country from our community, and some parents will be joining us to share language activities with our pupils, it is not too late if you would like to volunteer, contact the office with details of when you are available. To complement this celebration, a special school dinner menu has been prepared for the week, details of which are attached.

To conclude our week of learning, pupils will be performing dances from around the globe on Friday 7th June in the afternoon. We would like to invite our families to watch these and we kindly request parents to arrive via the school driveway entrance at 1:45pm. Although some seating will be provided, we recommend bringing portable chairs if possible. Due to space limitations, please note that tickets for the afternoon event will be limited to two per family. To secure your place, please book your tickets on the online booking system.

We believe that Cultural Week and Feast Day Mass provide our school community with valuable opportunities to come together and celebrate our shared values and diversity. We encourage your active participation and look forward to your presence at these events.

If you have any further queries or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Thank you for your continued support.

Notices from the School Office

Dear Parents/Carers

Please ensure your child is bringing in a healthy snack each day.   They should NOT have chocolate, cakes or crisps, although baked savoury snacks are acceptable.

We are a Healthy School and must ensure all children are following the guidelines.  Snacks must also NOT contain nuts or any type of nutty spread like Nutella or praline etc as we are a nut free school.

Thank you for your continued support with this matter.

We would like to remind all our families using breakfast club of the importance of booking in advance.  We have noticed an increase of children not booking in advance and this effects our staffing ratio.

All bookings must be made at the beginning of each week so we can ensure we have enough staff available.  Priority will be given to children who have booked in advance and those who have not booked may not be able to stay.

If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk

We would like to remind all our families that we are a nut free school to protect some of our pupils/staff and therefore request that no items of food containing nuts are brought in.  We have noticed an increasing number of children bringing in snacks and spreads containing nuts ie cereal bars, chocolate spread etc.  We hope you all understand the importance that some of our community have epi pens for their allergies and we need to ensure their safety at all times.  Thank you for your co-operation.

New School Uniform Supplier

Due to the closure of Paul's School Uniform, we have made a new partnership with Brand Identity Schoolwear.  You can order online at
www.b-id.co.uk/schools/ or buy at their store - Unit 2, 555 Sutton Rd, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 5FB (the entrance is on Stock Road).

An alternative retailer is Crawlers, who can be found at 361 Hamstel Road, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 4LE

Uniform Policy

Here is a reminder of our SCHOOL UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS as parents may be considering purchasing uniform for the summer term. Please also pay special attention to the jewellery and hairstyles requirements as well, thank you.

Allergy Notice

A reminder to parents... we are a nut free school, so that means no Nutella/chocolate spread and peanut butter etc. should be bought in to school, including in packed lunches.  This is due to the fact that we have pupils severely allergic to nuts.  Thank you.

School Dinners

Please ensure that you book your child  a school dinner in advance.  Booking is essential for the kitchen to be able to prepare and arrange the correct quantity of food and limit any waste.

If you are having any problems with booking school dinners online, please contact the school office who will be more than happy to help.

Local Events

We have two family open days coming up at the Essex Fire Museum over the half term on Sunday 26th May 2024 and Tuesday 28th May 2024

There will be opportunities for families to get involved in history trails around the museum, spot hazards in our fire safety room, partake in craft activities and a sit on our fire engines (and squirt water😊).

The museum is free entry (but visits are by appointment only……..as we are on the site of an operational fire station).

If families are interested, could they please email us at:
museum@essex-fire.gov.uk  and tell us the number in their party and the time they would like to arrive (we are open from 10.30am to 4.00pm).   This is just because we have to keep the main station informed of numbers throughout the day.

Suggested last admissions are 2.30pm.   This is just so that people have enough time to experience everything on site.
