Love of God, Love of One Another, Love of our World and Love of learning

Prayer

Dear Lord,

We pray for all the children of our school this week but especially for our year 6 classes, St Peter and St Paul, as they have been working so hard with their SATs tests.

Thank you for creating them to have courage and determination and also for the kindness and support they have shown each other. May they be filled with your love and the knowledge that their best is always good enough and fill them with pride and happiness for all they have achieved.

Amen

Headteacher Message

This week at Sacred Heart…

What a busy week!

On Wednesday, Year 4 pupils took part in Bikeability training on our playground.  Pupils learned and refined some important cycling skills including gliding and controlling their bikes, as well as being aware of their surroundings: looking behind and turning around obstacles.  This training is intended to build confidence and develop practical skills – which we saw in abundance.  Well done Year 4!

Year 1 enjoyed a local trip to support their learning in History across Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Today, Year 3 classes held their Science Fair to share their scientific learning with the wider school community.  Thank you to parents/carers who were available to attend and support this event.

This week, Year 6 pupils, along with their peers across the country, sat their end-of-KS2 SATs tests.  I know the children and our Year 6 teaching staff have been working really hard in readiness for them.  We are immensely proud of how the children have risen to the challenge!  We know that they have done their very best – a very big well done to all!  Thank you to parents/carers of Year 6 children for your support across the week – reminding the children to have early nights, good breakfasts and an opportunity to relax each day after school to help sustain their efforts over a very intense week.

Our Year 2 children have also begun their KS1 assessments and will continue to do so over the month of May.  The format is very different for the younger children and hopefully the strains won’t be anywhere near as much but they too need to be in school and at their best so that the school obtains an accurate snapshot of where they are in their learning journey.  Like our older pupils, they are giving their very best and, supported by a large team of adults, will make their parents/carers proud of how much they have learned.

Thank you to all our staff members who have had a hand in preparing our pupils for these assessments.

Wishing all our families a safe and restful weekend.

God bless,

Mrs. Mullally

Diary Events

What's Happening

The whole school completed some wonderful art work in relation to charities linked to King Charles III. Some of this work can currently be viewed in the atrium.

Year 4 took part in Bikeability this week.  All pupils participated and tried their best throughout their time with the Bikeability team on the playground.

Year 1 have been on a local walk this week to look at local historic buildings near to our school as part of their learning in History.

Staffing Update

Miss Dugdale begins her maternity leave today.  We would like to thank Miss Dugdale for all her hard work with St Peter Class and we wish her well as she prepares for her new arrival.  Mrs Crabb will assume responsibilities as Maternity Cover Teacher for St Peter Class for the remainder of this academic year.

Breakfast Club and School Dinner Bookings

Please can parents and carers ensure that all bookings for school dinners and breakfast club are made in advance.  Many children's lunches are not being booked, on a daily basis, and this makes catering for the school very difficult.  We are very conscious of food wastage being bad for the environment so we really do require all families to take the time to book their child’s lunches in advance.  If booked on the day, we will not be able to guarantee their meal choice.

Also, Breakfast Club bookings must be made in advance to ensure sufficient staffing.  Some children are arriving without bookings and this can be a strain on our staffing first thing in the morning.

All bookings must be made via School Money in advance and payment made where applicable.

Thank you

Uniform Sale

The next pre-loved uniform sale will be on Monday 22nd May after school.  Donations of good quality pre loved uniform would be gratefully received in advance.

Smart Watches and Phones

A polite reminder that pupils should not be bringing in their phones to school or wearing smart watches. This is to keep children safe in our school environment and in line with school policy.

Stamp Appeal for RNIB

We are supporting the RNIB's Stamp appeal to support people with sight loss.  If you have any old or used stamps, please hand them in to the school office to support this worthy cause.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is vital for children to thrive.  Missing school can have a significant effect on education with children missing key learning and having gaps in their knowledge and understanding.  Wherever possible, please ensure your child is attending school every day!  We like to reward positive attendance and currently have weekly and termly attendance rewards.

Every week, the best class attendance wins a cuddly toy for the week, a certificate, and an extra go on the play equipment!

This week's winners:

Each term the class with the highest attendance wins a pizza party with their class mates.
