Headteacher Message

We have celebrated Holy Week with two lovely services, led by Years 5 and 4. The children recounted the most significant and important story with readings and songs, all expertly choreographed. We thank the children for their efforts, parents and friends for supporting us with their attendance and the staff for all of their hard work for this service and the whole term.

Mr Rivers signed off from his time with Year 5 and the Sacred Heart team by supporting other staff to prepare the children  with the Easter Service. On Wednesday, we also said 'goodbye' to Mrs Brown after her nine years teaching dance at the school. We wish them both the very best for the future and thank them for all that they have done.

Congratulations to our girls who competed impressively at the Assisi Trust football tournament on Tuesday; third place is an excellent start and something to be proud of. We are also proud of our Year 2 pupils who enjoyed themselves and represented the school with excellent behaviour on their trip to Colchester Zoo yesterday.

Thank you if you have been able to join the children for the Year 6 World War 2 exhibition or the Year 3 equivalent for Rocks and Fossils: with your support, they have prodocuced some truly amazing pieces of work.

Easter eggs have dominated the atrium for the last couple of weeks and today those with winning tickets will be bringing home eggs to, no doubt, swell the numbers that they will be given at home. Let us remember the story of Jesus as we celebrate this weekend.

We hope that you all enjoy the Easter period and any time off together that you may be fortunate to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming everyone back form our Summer term in a couple of weeks.

God bless,

Stars of the Week

Here are our stars of the week who have represented our core values well through their actions of responsibility, achievement, compassion, equality, faith and respect.

School Library

Our Amazon Wishlist is live!! The idea is that friends and family of the school can donate directly to the school library. We’ll still accept preloved copies from home that you may also wish to donate. The selection of books are chosen by the staff as texts that may benefit the pupil's reading comprehension, engagement with the curriculum and foster an interest in reading. The current list is reflective of this and will update as and when donations come through Amazon.co.uk

A big thank you to those that have bought books for the school, we truly appreciate it.

What's Happening at Sacred Heart

We celebrated the Easter Passion this week, with Year 5 creating Tableaus for us to reflect upon the events of Holy Week. They were joined by Year 4 and the choir singing.

Year 2 went to the Zoo! The children have been reading The Ugly Five and enjoyed trying to spot the characters from the book whilst at Colchester Zoo

Year 6 held their WWII exhibition today showcasing their homework projects, DT work in school and their dance's from PE lessons, all around this theme.

Year 5 have been looking at how the shape of an object affects the water resistance that has been placed on it.

We are super proud of the girl's football team who finished with bronze medals in today's Catholic Trust event. Every girl has progressed with their level of skill and knowledge since the start of the year and all fully deserve their medals.

SEND Spring Term Update

Thank you to all those families who have engaged with the ISP (individual support plan) meetings at school. I hope the plans have been shared with you, with your child's views, targets and support they are receiving in school. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as we know that children with additional needs need a high level of support at home too.

Please contact your class teacher if this hasn't been shared with you yet. Please log onto https://edukeyapp.com/parent/login to communicate or share your views. To find out further how we support children with special educational needs, at Sacred Heart Catholic school please click on this link.

This week we have updated our SEND Flow Chart.  You can find the full document on our website here

If you need assistance making a booking please email annemariedriscoll@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk

Uniform Policy

Here is a reminder of our SCHOOL UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS as parents may be considering purchasing uniform for the summer term. Please also pay special attention to the jewellery and hairstyles requirements as well, thank you.

Attendance

The government launched on 8th January a new initiative to support parents and schools in improving the attendance of their children. Under the slogan ‘Moments Matter Attendance Counts’, the DFE have outlined a number of illnesses which they feel students should still come to school with despite feeling slightly under the weather.  The NHS has produced guidance to help you make a decision as to whether to send your child to school. Please see this at the following link NHS Guidance: Is my child too ill for school?  If you have any attendance queries or further questions relating to your son or daughter coming to school, please do not hesitate to contact the office telephone number 01702 534546 or by email office@sacredheart.southend.sch.uk for clarification

If your child has sickness or diarrhea remember that ALL children must remain at home until they have had 48 clear hours after the last bout of illness/symptoms. This Government requirement to prevent the spread of these highly infections illnesses. Please do not send your child back to school too soon, thank you.

Absence: If your child is unwell and unable to attend, please notify the school of the reason for the absence on the first day of an unplanned absence by 9am or as soon as practically possible by calling the school or by emailing. If the absence lasts more than one day, please update the school on a daily basis

Allergy Notice

A reminder to parents... we are a nut free school, so that means no Nutella/chocolate spread and peanut butter etc. should be bought in to school, including in packed lunches.  This is due to the fact that we have pupils severely allergic to nuts.  Thank you.

School Dinners

Please ensure that you book your child  a school dinner in advance.  Booking is essential for the kitchen to be able to prepare and arrange the correct quantity of food and limit any waste.

If you are having any problems with booking school dinners online, please contact the school office who will be more than happy to help.
