Bonjour families!
Thank you all for your contributions to our "Toonies for Terry" Fundraiser! We enjoyed our school-wide Terry Fox run today! Thank you to all of our awesome parent volunteers who made this event possible!
We would like to remind families that Rocky View School will be observing the September 30th Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There will be no classes on this day. We will be wearing orange shirts to school on the 29th as a reminder that every child matters. Over the course of the week, we will be discussing how every child is unique and special and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We invite you to continue these conversations at home with your child.
Please check if you are able to login to myBlueprint as well: https://app.myblueprint.ca/
Literacy:
We will be beginning Grade 2 sight words this week!
Our sounds of the week is: "i" et "y" (same sound)
Words of the week: ici, arrive, il y a, stylo, pyjama
If you are not sure about pronunciations, Wordreference (english-french dictionary) has a listen button for the words:
You can work on these words at home by: reading the words out loud with your child (have them translate to verify their comprehension), have them spell the words (practice daily in the agenda), or have them use the word in a French sentence. You can also have the student practice identifying each letter in french and the letter sounds (phonemes).
For more ideas on how to practice sight words at home, see the attached below:
We will continuing to review poems (through shared readings) in order to practice learning new vocabulary, rhyming, our accuracy when reading, comprehension and fluidity together! We are working towards beginning our Daily 5 centers in the next few weeks.
Numeracy: We will be continuing to learn about the various ways we can represent numbers (with a focus on numbers 20-60). We have learned about using symbolic form, tally marks, and base ten blocks. We will continue to learn about how to represent numbers through using equations. We will continue working on identifying if numbers are even and odd (pair/impair).
Science: We will continue our study of insects and observing them in our environment. We learned about the characteristics that define an insect and more about their anatomy last week. This upcoming week, we will be exploring what insects need to survive in their environments.
Social Studies: This week we will focus on an important part of community: valuing others. Our discussions will center on how every child matters and deserves to learn and grow in a safe place. We will also highlight the importance of valuing the things that make us different from others such as our different cultures and heritage. This conversation will be directly correlated to Orange Shirt day (we will also be discussing the First People on the land in Airdrie - the Blackfoot).
Art: We will be continuing to create art about our environment. Look for pictures of our autumn landscape next week!
