Bonjour families!
Thank you to all our parent volunteers for all your help with skating over the past few weeks - the students had a great time!

Field Trip: We will be going to Nose Creek Valley Museum on November 15th. Field Trip forms are due back by Tuesday morning, as well as the field trip fee of $5.00 per student via SchoolCash Online.
We are looking for more parent volunteers to accompany us on our field tro to the Nose Creek Valley Museum to learn about Airdrie of the past. Mme Cornell's Class will be at the museum at 9am, and Mme McCaffrey's class will be at the museum at 12:30. Volunteers can meet us outside our grade 2 (north) doors 20 minutes before their class' museum tour time so that we can walk over together! Thank you so much.
If you are volunteering, can you please ensure you have completed your Annual Volunteer forms and have your Vulnerable Sector check on file at the office.
Linked below are the forms that need to be filled out and returned prior to volunteering.
This year, all volunteers will need to attend a safety orientation with Mrs. Neis in addition to filling out annual volunteer forms and submitting a criminal record check to the office.

Literacy:
We have launched our Home Literacy page of the website. Please visit this page for details out our Home Reading Challenge.
The sound of the week is: "v". The words of the week are: vendredi, vingt, ouvre, veut, verbe
If you are not sure about pronunciations, Wordreference (english-french dictionary) has a listen button for the words: https://www.wordreference.com/
You can work on these words at home by: reading the words out loud with your child (have them translate to verify their comprehension), have them spell the words (practice daily in the agenda), or have them use the word in a French sentence. You can also have the student practice identifying each letter in french and the letter sounds (phonemes).
For more ideas on how to practice sight words at home, see the attached below:
We will continuing to review poems (through shared readings) in order to practice learning new vocabulary, rhyming, our accuracy when reading, comprehension and fluidity together! We are slowly working on introducing our Daily 5 centers which include: reading to self, word work, writing, speaking and listening to reading (once we have our technology running).
Numeracy: We are wrapping up the study of number patterns. We have been working on patterns with numbers (ex: 2, 4, 6, 8). This will aid students in skip counting! Students are working to skip count by 20s, 25s and 50s starting at 0. They are also working to skip count by 2s and 10s starting at any number between 0 -1000 (this will be ongoing throughout the year).
Science: We will be continuing to wrap up our study of insects and small animals with a cross-curricular art project. Students will use their creativity to invent an imaginary bug which they will begin sculpting from clay. Students will need to ensure that the anatomy of their insect is accurate, as well as design an environment that meets all of their insect's basic needs. We are looking forward to sharing students' creations!
Social Studies: Students are wrapping up their learning of a prairie community. We will be summarizing our knowledge of the geography, economy, and culture of our prairie community in a sketch note format allowing students to represent their learning in both writing and illustrations.
