Bonjour families!
We have so enjoyed getting to know students better over the last week. Please see below for this week's updates and reminders.
Please complete your child's annual forms in Powerschool. Please log into your PowerSchool ParentPortal account and select the SchoolEngage Icon on the left side. Once SchoolEngage opens, click on your student. A forms link will open with the Annual Authorization and Demographic form links. Please complete all outstanding forms.
Annual authorization forms provide your child with access to technology, approval to walk within a 3KM radius of the school (Nose Creek Park), and other authorizations. With the Terry Fox run coming on Friday, September 23, it is imperative to complete the authorizations prior to this date.
Thank you!
Please complete the canine therapy form in order for Winnifred (Mme Cornell's trained and certified therapy dog) to join us this year!
"Toonies for Terry" Fundraiser: you can bring donations now until September 23rd: your children are welcome to bring in "Toonies for Terry" (all loose change is welcome!). Our school Terry Fox run will take place on Friday, September 23, and we will be walking at Nose Creek Park with our classes.
We now have myBlueprint portfolio set up this year -- please check if you are able to login to myBlueprint: https://app.myblueprint.ca/
--Also, please refrain from sending toys from home to school with your child. Thank you. --
Literacy:
We will be beginning Grade 2 sight words this week!
Our sounds of the week is: "i"
Words of the week: fini, unité, il, difficile
If you are not sure about pronunciations, Wordreference (english-french dictionary) has a listen button for the words: https://www.wordreference.com/
You can work on these words at home by: reading the words out loud with your child (have them translate to verify their comprehension), have them spell the words (practice daily in the agenda- Please note Mme McCaffrey's class' agendas are still on backorder and are hopefully arriving in the coming week), or have them use the word in a French sentence. You can also have the student practice identifying each letter in french and the letter sounds (phonemes) in the words.
We will continuing to review poems/songs (through shared readings) in order to practice learning new vocabulary, rhyming, our accuracy when reading, comprehension and fluidity together!
Numeracy: We will be continuing to learn about the various ways we can represent numbers (with a focus on numbers 20-50). We have learned about using symbolic form, tally marks, and base ten blocks. We will solidify our understanding of base 10 materials and also look at how to represent numbers using equations.
Science: We have discussed how scientists use their observation skills to learn about the world around them, as well as looked at the scientific method used by real life scientists. Students will be trying out their observation skills by getting outside and observing insects.
Social Studies: We are continuing with the study of our community here in Airdrie. We will be learning about our community by taking a look at some of the celebrations, traditions, and landmarks that make Airdrie unique!
Art: This past Thursday we celebrated International Dot Day- a day inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book, The Dot (le point de départ). Students learned about the importance of experimenting in art and simply being brave enough to start a project. They created "dots" with their names and own unique designs which will be transformed into metal buttons that students can wear (thank you to Mme Page for transforming our dots!). This upcoming week, we will start a fall drawing project. Students will practice representing the world around them using the bright colours of fall.

Autoportraits (Self-portraits)
We discussed the many things that make us unique and special! We then created these self-portraits to celebrate the many differences and similarities (colours) that we all have! Check my blueprint for a closer look at individual art.
