Makerspace: Mme Page has asked that all classes bring in several cardboard boxes as students will be building a place for "Bonhomme" to stay during French culture week with MakeDo Screws. Please send in any cardboard boxes that you would like to get rid of on Monday or Tuesday.

Please let us know if are available to volunteer to join us for swimming March 21,23, 28, 30 - Swimming at Genesis (1:15-2:00 pm) - We will be leaving the school around 12:40 to walk to Genesis place.
If you would like to volunteer and haven’t completed the OH&S orientation, please plan to sign up for one of the following dates. Volunteer OH&S orientations will be held during the following days from 8:30-8:45 AM;

Literacy:
The sound of the week is: "é" & "er". The words of the week are: année, février, préféré, premier, allé
Sight words: We have also been reviewing sight words (common words/everyday words) with students since the beginning of the year, at this point in the year we are expecting students to know at least 120 sight words, aiming to know 250 by the end of the year (students are currently expected to know up until slide #8 - around 120 words). We have sent home some rings with words to practice at home. For some ideas on how to practice, please see this resource: Parents Guide to Sight Words

Literacy Routine: Students have been organized into literacy small groups that will continue to receive targeted instruction on their individual literacy goals through targeted small group instruction, and specific literacy centers. Targeted skills include phonological awareness skills, phonemic awareness instruction, listening to French, speaking French, writing, and reading instruction.
Writer's Workshop: Students will begin the planning stage of a fictional text. We look forward to hearing their imaginative ideas!

Numeracy: Students will moving on to our most challenging math unit of the year: double digit addition/ subtraction. To prepare them for this, we will be reviewing place value, emphasizing what it means when numbers are in the tens spot vs. in the ones spot. We will then begin double digit addition without regrouping to familiarize students with adding the ones first, then the tens.
Science: Students will wrap up their study of magnets by identifying examples of magnets in use in their environment and daily life. They will be creating a magnetic toy to conclude this unit.
Social Studies: Students have selected an arctic animal to complete a research project about. Students will now be conducting research, organizing the data they find, and presenting it using clear communication to their classmates. This project encompasses many interdisciplinary outcomes and will take multiple weeks to complete.
Art: Students will finishing up their stamping art to accompany their research project presentations. They will also be learning the Inuit name for their arctic animal and using the Inuktituk alphabet to spell their animals name!
