Glass Transparency

I am calling this project, "I'll Get Around to it Next Year" because I assume that's what Mr. Bradford said for years before this boat became a permanent part of the landscape. The subject is an object based off of the boat at my neighbors down the road. I chose to create this specific work because I wanted to show how long the boat had been there and the grime on it. I used a variety of techniques including angle down and informal balance. While creating this work, I paid close attention to color by adjusting it until I achieved the look that I was going for. I wanted my work to look old and vintage and did that by making the color more subtle and monochromatic. To add interest to my composition, I used balance and contrast by having two photos, one being simpler and up close, and one of the whole boat with the trees and shed in the background to capture the whole "picture". I like the way that the moss is growing on the boat and am proud of the look I achieved with the color. However, I struggled with coming up with a good composition, including two images to make one and incorporating the main part of my concentration into it. I originally was going to put the top image over some old building as a background, but didn't like how it was going to I went in a different direction with the two boat images. I still was able to have the shed in the background but it isn't as prominent as I would like. Overall I am very happy with this composition and it still fits the other aspects of my concentration with the snow and nature and just the overall old theme most of my photos seem to have. If I created another work like this I may try to have an old building be more prominent in the composition. My work shows that I can create a glass/transparency photograph.
