About Me

My name is Willem Pandora, I was born in Portland Maine. I have an older brother named Eero and we all speak english at home. My career goals are to have a career that is flexible gives me the freedom to still do the things I enjoy doing. In five years I probably see myself finding a job doing something I enjoy like, something that allows me to adventure like a guide. My brothers old friend from middle school who I also knew pretty well is currently in art school at the Art Institute of Chicago. I am most proud of who I am and the things I enjoy doing, I am proud that I'm not into school sports like every other kid ever. In my free time I enjoy fishing, mountain biking, camping and skiing. I enrolled in this class mostly to learn how to take good images and the basics of film. Two photographers who I am interested in right now are Matthew Seavy and Jack Sipperly. Matthew Seavy is local to Maine and worked for an old skate shop that I used to go to. He only photographs as a hobby but I follow him on Instagram where he posts his 35mm scans that I really like. Jack Sipperly is a college student from Rhode Island who I met at the Marthas Vineyard skatepark. He also is a hobbyist who shoots 35mm film for fun. He takes really cool long exposures of the ocean waves and surfers that I see on Instagram. My ideal job would be some sort of guide, whether it be fishing, rafting or any other outdoor activity I enjoy doing. I just want to do something had directly relates to my hobbies and interests. Three adjectives people might use to describe me with are quiet, eager, and adventurous.

I am drawn to this photograph because of its old run down feel. I like the look of the old square buildings and the grass growing through the sidewalk cracks. I like how these types of photographs make you wonder who lives here and how small the town is. I would like to experience a place like this and see how they live simply.

I am drawn to this photograph because it reminds me of photographs that I see here in Maine of boats and water. It reminds me of the Freeport harbor where I go fishing a lot in the summer. I like all of the pilings sticking out of the water that add more interest to the photo. I get a kind of mysterious feel from this photo which I think is due to the photo being black and white. The absence of people, in my opinion makes you think deeper about when and where this is.

This photo, like the first one, makes me wonder what this town is like now and what it used to be like. I like the sort of simplicity of the photo and how the red beam pops in the image. I like that the photographer had to go and explore these old abandoned places to find a cool place.

I am drawn to this image because of its colors. I like all of the neutral colors of the building and sidewalk with the bright pop of the door. The gates over the other doors also add cool texture to the photo. I like how this photo looks because of its gritty, dirty look.

This photo reminds me a lot of the state park down the road from my house. Since it is so close, it is often where I go most to take photos. I like that this photo is three main colors, green, brown and black. That makes it feel simpler and more natural.
