Abstract
This research paper includes various information regarding capital punishment in the United States. It also includes information specific to Michigan, the first state to abolish the death penalty. This article explores the historical, financial, and philosophical costs of the death penalty. The pros and cons of the death penalty are the real idea of this paper. It raises the philosophical arguments around whether it is justified and if non-death penalty states like Michigan should reconsider enacting it. This study was conducted to see the current trend amongst college students regarding their opinions on capital punishment. The participants of this study (n=69) are from one small university in Southeast Michigan and are all over the age of 18. Opinions on the death penalty are very controversial with a lot of data showing how evenly people agreed and disagreed with specific questions. The data collected from a 15-question online survey suggests more support for the death penalty and a lot the participants who neither agree nor disagree on the topic.
