St. Teresa of Avila is proud to be “The Mindful School”. The benefits of mindfulness include improved self-regulation and overall well being.
Staff will continue to teach and promote mindfulness skills in a variety of settings; the classroom, in the gym, and during weekly Tiger Time sessions.
Classroom lessons have begun on a variety of topics such as negative vs positive self-talk, considering others perspectives, growth mindset, social filters and taking part in mindful activities in the Mindful Nest.
March Tiger Time
During the month of March, all classes had the opportunity to attend Tiger Time to talk about Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). This strategy involves tensing and relaxing body parts to release stress and extra energy! When we tense then relax we remind our bodies what it feels like to be relaxed.
Calm bodies= calm feelings!
Find more PMR activities here!
Did you know?
Research shows that PMR is effective at helping to relax the mind and body at bedtime.
Check out these guided PMR videos.
We know that many parents have been juggling their childcare needs this year with limited options, so we wanted to highlight some of our amazing community groups planning to offer on-site day camps this summer. Childcare programs aren’t just about providing supervision for your kids. From grandparents to rec centres, childcare & youth programs are also about developing relationships, skills, interests and our sense of community.

Kidsport kidsportcanada.ca/alberta/red-deer/apply-for-a-grant Kidsport provides grants to children from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sports programs.
Jumpstart jumpstart.canadiantire.ca When families need a little financial boost to get kids involved in a sport, dance team, or other active programa, they need to fill out an application. This needs to be done before the fees are due, as the money goes right to the organization. Applications for assistance can typically be submitted from January 15 to November 1; with the goal for funding to be equitably distributed over Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter activities.
Inclusion of organizations in this guide does not represent endorsement of programs, nor does exclusion indicate disapproval.
