Make a playlist of music that your child has identified as calming. Offer to play it for them while they are winding down before bedtime, or during a bath.
Later you can offer to play the list for them when their mood is heightened. If possible make the list accessible to them so that they can use it on their own.
Be sure to monitor how your child’s song selections impact their mood. Edit the list If you find some of the music is lowering their mood rather than creating a sense of calm.
Try dancing to different styles, rhythms and tempos of music. Notice how your body feels and how it moves differently to the different styles of music.
Try listening to a favourite song, lyrical or instrumental, and try drawing a picture to the music. This might include shapes, colours, images, emotions or even words. It doesn't matter what it looks like, the goal is to express visually how the song makes you feel and what it makes you think about.
