Universal Classroom Mindfulness Lessons: For June our focus will be 'Summer Safety'. This topic will look at ways to keep ourselves safe and how to reach out for help when it is needed. Take a look at the 'Kids Helpline' for more information and some fun activities.
Grade 5 Transitions to Middle School: Please take a look at St. Thomas & St. Francis' websites for more information as counsellor visits, parent night and the tour have been completed. If you have any questions please email your child's teacher and/or the counsellors at St. Teresa.

Grounding & Nature
Grounding helps us stay in the moment when worried, upset or distressed. It helps us connect with and notice our bodies and the sounds, smells, tastes, sights, and textures in the world right around us: the feeling of walking on grass or carpet, smelling your favourite candle or the neighbourhood's BBQs, that "I just brushed my teeth" minty taste, the tart taste of lemonade, the sound of the kettle boiling or the birds singing, the feel of the couch fabric, the warmth of the sun on your face, the colour of new leaves and noticing the freckles on your skin.

When we focus on grounding ourselves in the moment, our thoughts can neither worry about the future nor ruminate on the past. It requires us to let go of our distressing thoughts and allows us to relax our bodies as we tune in to the world under our fingertips.

Listening/mindfulness walks teach kids to walk mindfully, to take notice of what they see and to listen to the world around them. It's a difficult skill to master, but a helpful skill for developing focus, attention span and awareness of the world around you.

Sports and outdoor recreation are important for our physical and mental well-being and often lead to friendships and connections to community that last a lifetime. The following groups assist eligible families to access recreation throughout the year:

Our Breakfast Program is funded by the Government of Alberta School Nutrition Program and community parish members to provide a hot breakfast every morning to hungry students who haven't had breakfast. Breakfast programs ensure that all students have reliable access to nutritious food in a safe and supportive environment, in order to positively impact health and learning.

Our PC School Nutrition Grant allows us to provide each classroom with a bin of shelf-stable snacks to ensure students experiencing poverty have access to a mid-morning snack. President Choices believe access to good food and food education provides the foundation, so children can learn and grow, improving their well-being, making a positive contribution to the world around them – now, and in the future.
