Edison’s Architecture and Masonry students continue to grow as technical learners and future professionals through ongoing Employability Skills Workshops. These sessions focus on essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management.
Students are also strengthening their English Language Arts (ELA) abilities by applying reading, writing, and presentation skills to real-world construction and design scenarios. From crafting professional emails and resumes to presenting project ideas with clarity and confidence, students are building both academic and career readiness.
By integrating employability and ELA skill development, these experiences help students build confidence, develop professionalism, and prepare for success in the trades, college, and beyond.

During Edison’s bi-weekly Architect Spotlight, students explored the life and legacy of world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The session celebrated her groundbreaking contributions to modern architecture—highlighting her innovative designs, iconic structures, and lasting global impact.
Students discussed Hadid’s design philosophy, the challenges she faced as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, and how her work continues to shape communities and inspire future designers.
This activity also gave students the opportunity to apply their ELA and critical thinking skills, writing about diversity in architecture and reflecting on their own aspirations within the world of design.

Edison’s Level 1 Architecture students are stepping into the role of junior architects as they guide their first “client” through the full architectural design process. From initial concept to final technical drawings, students tackle real-world challenges including client communication, site analysis, and design decision-making.
Through the project, students work across all five design phases—pre-design, schematic design, design development, technical drawings, and final presentation—creating professional-quality plans and models that reflect both functional needs and aesthetic goals.
This hands-on experience helps students build critical thinking, creativity, and technical skills while gaining a real-world understanding of the architectural design process.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some Edison High School students will soon see their faces on RTS buses. Their pictures will be featured on the sides of RTS buses to honor the students for making positive choices while riding, as part of the “Positive Behavior Choices Award.”
The award encourages good behavior among students while they ride RTS buses, and encourages them to have positive relationships with bus drivers.
“When you have a good relationship with your driver, even if it’s only someone you see a couple times, it makes you feel comfortable,” said student Naveajah, a senior at Edison. “It makes you not be like ‘ugh I gotta get on the bus’ – it’s kind of like oh ok cool I can get on the bus I know this person I’m comfortable here I can chill here.”
One side of the bus will have the Edison students faces, while the other will feature Nicholas Jumpp, a 2025 Edison graduate and winner of the “RTS Positive Behavior Essay Contest.”
On Friday, Edison students spent the day at RTS, giving students hands-on exposure to careers in public transportation.

Architect Spotlight: Louis Kahn – A Master of Light and Structure
On October 17, our Masonry program featured an Architect Spotlight on one of the most influential figures in modern architecture — Louis Kahn. Known for his powerful use of natural light, texture, and timeless materials, Kahn’s designs continue to inspire architects, builders, and craftspeople around the world.
Students explored how Kahn’s architectural philosophy connects deeply to the craft of masonry — emphasizing precision, purpose, and the beauty found in raw materials like stone and brick. Through his iconic works such as the Salk Institute and the National Assembly Building of Bangladesh, students saw how thoughtful design and structural integrity can shape not only buildings but also the emotions of those who experience them.
This spotlight gave our masonry students a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind architectural design and the lasting impact of craftsmanship in every structure built.

Edison Tech’s library was buzzing with activity as students and staff participated in Buddy Reads and the RCSD Level-Up for Literacy challenge! Students took a break from the shops and classrooms to grab a friend, pick a book, and share the joy of reading together—proving that reading doesn’t have to be a solo sport.
The halls went silent (in the best way!) at 10:27 AM as everyone dropped everything and read, immersing themselves in stories and enjoying the power of books. Students and staff also shared their favorite reads through Book Talks, highlighting how reading connects our community and inspires learning.
It was an incredible reminder that reading is more than just a skill—it’s a way to learn, grow, and connect with others. Thank you to all the readers who made today so special!
