Summer 2023

Summer 2023

By 2030, the United States will need more than 275,000 nurses. We are in a crisis situation. Students at Rochester NY's Edison Career and Technology High School look at some of the possible career options for those looking to enter the nursing workforce. Edison Career and Technology High School is a comprehensive CTE school with 4 pathways to careers. This video was produced by 2 students in the Digital Media Arts & Communication Pathway's TV & Video Production program. We are grateful for the support from Rochester Regional Health in completing this senior project.

Summer 2023

The "Summer of Discovery" program is creating courses that give all students a chance to learn about things they love - and build on skills not taught during the school year.

On Wednesday, career and technical education camps at Edison Career and Technology High School featured a fun day of learning about cooking, fashion, and much more.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to combine what kids are learning in the summer and transitioning to practical skills they need," Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small said.

"They also talked about teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation. It's some of those other skills that aren’t measured but are really important," she said.

Summer 2023

Rochester, N.Y. — There's a new place to "set a spell" at the Corn Hill Landing.

New Adirondack chairs of every color were handcrafted in the classroom this past year by students at Edison Tech, and those colors were not always easy.

"Sometimes we had to double paint and triple paint them," explained Ky Sin-Johnson, a senior at RCSD. "Sometimes, one part of the wood would not let the paint stick onto it — it's frustrating, I tell you."

Frustrating — but rewarding, too — a win-win in the classroom.

"So, what we're trying to do is make sure these have a variety of experiences so that they're able to pursue whatever passions they have after high school, and find a role in our community that satisfies them and gives them purpose," said Chris McCoy, a teacher at Edison Tech.

That lesson, is something the young carpenters seemed to embrace — their wish for the Corn Hill community.

"To come down here, look at it, sit on it, and being happy for us to do it for them," said Terrance Healy, another senior at RCSD.

"It feels great," continued Sin-Johnson. "I made a mark in Rochester, and I feel great! When people walk past that, they're going to know that I made it, and I feel like a part of me is going to stay behind here."

The new chairs are part of an ongoing partnership between Edison Tech and the Corn Hill Neighborhood Association.
