Students Construct New Garden Beds at Mary McLeod Bethune School No. 45

In a remarkable display of collaboration and community spirit, Edison Career and Technology High School students are extending their talents to enhance the educational experience of students at Mary McLeod Bethune School No. 45.

Students from Edison’s Career and Technology Education (CTE) Construction and Design pathway have built and installed new garden beds, breathing fresh life into the landscape at School No. 45 and creating an outdoor classroom.  The initiative is part of School No. 45’s ongoing efforts to incorporate more green learning space, recognizing its numerous benefits to students.

“We are so thankful to the students from Edison,” said School No. 45 Principal Christine Manuele-Turnquist.  “When we come together, we can create an environment that nurtures a love of science and nature, and the students from Edison do exceptional work.”

“Our Edison CTE Construction and Design pathway (Architecture, Masonry, Carpentry, and Electrical) students and teachers have been working with schools throughout the District to enhance other RCSD campuses,” said Ashley Dermody, a teacher at Edison.  “Our team has worked diligently to collaborate successfully, and we are so happy to have worked with students from School No. 45.”

Breast cancer has touched the lives of many within our school community, both past and present. This event is not just an opportunity to wear pink, but it’s a powerful symbol of our collective support, empathy, and solidarity. By participating in the Pink Out, we are not only raising awareness about breast cancer but also demonstrating our unwavering support for those who have fought or are still fighting this battle.

We made this day a vibrant sea of pink, a testament to our school spirit, compassion, and support for a cause that affects millions around the world.  We showed the strength of our Edison community and made our 1st Annual Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness a resounding success.
