March 2025 Women & Welding
Women & Welding 2025: Crafting a Symbol of Knowledge and Craftsmanship
We’re thrilled to launch Women & Welding 2025 with a talented group of 12 young women from grades 9-12! This year, they are working alongside local metal artist Stacy Mrva and Olivia, a senior college student from RIT, to create a striking symbol of knowledge and craftsmanship.
Their design features an eternal flame intertwined with a Thomas Edison light bulb, representing the enduring light of knowledge that has guided tradespeople since our school's founding in 1908. This symbol will be mounted on a 7-foot Roman-style column, adorned with vines and leaves—all fabricated and welded by our students.
This project would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, who provided the materials to bring this vision to life:
🔹 Davey Tree Experts (Joe Collins) – Metal cable for vines
🔹 Murphy & Nolan (Tom Ross) – Steel rod
🔹 RTMA (Bob Coyne) – Sheet metal
🔹 LMC Industrial Contractors (Scott Mulvaney) – Steel pipe & flange
Check out the video below to see the project’s beginnings, and stay tuned for updates next week!

March 5th Women in Law Field Trip
The young women of Edison Career & Technology High School had an incredible opportunity to participate in a Women in Law field trip at the Monroe County Court in downtown Rochester.
During their visit to 99 Exchange Blvd, our students engaged in a powerful panel discussion with female county court justices, gaining firsthand insight into the legal profession, the challenges and triumphs of women in law, and the importance of representation in the justice system.
The discussion covered topics such as:
🔹 The career paths of female justices and how they achieved success
🔹 The role of the courts in upholding justice in our community
🔹 Overcoming obstacles as women in a traditionally male-dominated field
🔹 Advice for young women interested in pursuing legal careers
This experience allowed our students to ask questions, hear inspiring stories, and envision themselves in future leadership roles. A huge thank you to the Monroe County Court and the justices who took the time to mentor and inspire our students!
March 5th ITEC Tour
Students in Edison's Construction CTE Pathway recently had the opportunity to tour the ITEC Training & Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to HVAC and skilled trades training. This visit gave students an inside look at career pathways in the construction and HVAC industries while allowing them to engage in hands-on activities.
About ITEC:
Located in a 30,000-square-foot facility, ITEC provides focused training in HVAC and construction trades. The center includes:
A 20,000-square-foot multi-functional technical lab
10,000 square feet of interactive classroom space
8 separate lab modules
A full-scale indoor house for real-world training scenarios
During the tour, students explored the different lab spaces, learned about industry-standard equipment, and gained insight into the skills needed for careers in the trades. Hands-on activities allowed them to experience the type of work required in these fields, reinforcing the practical skills they develop in Edison's Construction CTE program.
This experience helped students connect classroom learning with real-world applications, sparking interest in future career opportunities within the skilled trades.
A huge thank you to ITEC for hosting our students and providing them with this valuable experience!
