Everyone needs some alone time every once in a while, and it can be hard to find a quiet place now that we’re all stuck at home. In this week’s story, we’re reading about a grandmother who has to travel very, very far just to find a little peace and quiet. How far does she go? Find out in this week’s story!
How far would you go to find a quiet place? Would you go all the way to outer space, like the grandmother in the story? This week, use your imagination and think about where you’d like to travel to. Write a story or draw a picture about where you’d like to go. You can continue the story you started last week, if you did that activity, or you can make a new one. What would your perfect place look like? What would you do while you were there? Would you knit sweaters like the grandmother? Would you meet some moon men?
Like last week, this week you can try using both PebbleGo (username: brookline & password: brookline) and World Book Kids (username: psbma & password: psbma) to find out more about the place you’d like to travel to. For example, if you visit PebbleGo, you can find out more about outer space by going to Science, then Earth and Space Sciences, and then clicking on Space Sciences. Or, you might want to explore places people live on Earth. If you go into PebbleGo, then Social Studies, and then People and The Environment, you can learn about different places people live. Do any of these look like quiet places you’d like to visit?
Bonus activity: If you log into World Book Kids (username: psba & password: psbma) and search for “wormhole” in the search bar, you will find an entry about Kip Thorne, a physicist. Why does his name appear when you search for the word “wormhole?” And what can you learn about wormholes from the entry about him? See if you can find out!
PS. Make sure to search for “wormhole” as one word, not two.
