September 28: Wild About Books

Watch:

Getting back to school means getting back to your school library! Even though school is different this year, you can still use your school library and get excited about reading. To celebrate getting “back to the books,” we are reading a funny story about what happens when a librarian accidentally takes her books to a zoo. Do you think animals would enjoy reading? Watch here!

Make:

In Wild About Books, we learn about what different animals like to read, like how the giraffes want tall books and the hyenas want funny books. People (and animals) like to read all kinds of different books. A lot of the time, people will read books that their friends tell them are good. This is called a book recommendation. This week, you can make a book recommendation for an animal, just like the librarian in the zoo. Use your imagination and think of what animal you would recommend a book to. What book would you pick and why? If you would like to share your suggestions and have them posted on our webpage, you can email your answers to Ms. Seifert at julie_seifert@psbma.org.

Wonder:

Wondering what book to choose for your animal? Not sure what to pick? You could get some ideas by searching in your library’s catalog. A catalog is a website that shows you all the books that are in that library. Each library has its own catalog to show you its own books. Try searching in your school library catalog. This video will show you how!
