Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year fell on February 12 this year. For Brookline staff and students this was the first year Lunar New Year is considered a "category 1" holiday. This means that Brookline recognizes it as a "day of low attendance" -- many staff and students may be celebrating the holiday and may be out of school. Our February vacation started a little early this year because of Lunar New Year as it fell on the Friday before February vacation.

Because the New Year is celebrated in many Asian cultures, Lunar New Year is a more inclusive term than "Chinese New Year" which you may be more familiar with. What are some traditions of the New Year celebrations? Read this article to find out.
