April is National Poetry Month, so this week we are exploring poetry. Watch this video of Coolidge Corner School librarian Ms. Seifert reading the book When Green Becomes Tomatoes: Poems for All Seasons. This book has poems about different days of the year. We are reading the ones from March and April. Do you think the poems do a good job of describing March and April?
When Green Becomes Tomatoes has poems for different days of the year. Each poem has one or two small things in it about that day, but these small things give the reader a picture of what the day was like. Try writing your own day of the year poem for today! What do you see outside? What’s the weather like? What did you do today? See if you can make your own picture of the day with your words!
What is poetry? If you would like to learn more about poetry, you can use the library’s online encyclopedia World Book Kids (username: psbma & password: psbma) to find out more. An online encyclopedia is another place to find facts about people, places, and things. Try searching the word “poetry” and see what you can find out!
