PSA Student News
Last week on Thursday and Friday, PSA’s Mission Design class traveled to the University of Alabama located in Huntsville for an in-person final review competition. Our Mission Design teams were given problems from NASA that they work to solve, whether it's figuring out how to survive the environment on other planets or design model rockets. PSA’s Mission Design team won the presentation category of the competition, which is 50% of the entire competition. Early Thursday morning they left in vans rented with money they raised from their GoFundMe and LEAP Day pizza sales. At the competition, the mission design teams set up an open house table, which included a poster and rocket model. They also included a working model rocket that they set off. Their model rocket went 620.8 kilometers in the air. Our mission design teams considered the best part of the competition to be meeting different teams and talking to professionals in that field. They also enjoyed learning from the other teams and learning how to work together. When asked what the worst part of the competition was, they replied “There were no bad parts, we enjoyed it all.” Also, when asked what was something they learned from this trip, they replied, “Don't be nervous,” and that even though there is lots of pressure and anxiety when presenting in front of lots of people, you should keep a level head and have fun.
The PSA Mission Design teams are Team Maverick, who won Final Review in their division, Team Asterion, who won the Outreach Award in their division, and Team Fimbulwinter. Students in the class are: Afif Uddin, Sydney Rivero, William Smoak, Mohamed Seck, Evan O'Neill, Chad Murphy, Carson Harris, Cayden Johnson, Noah Meloeny, Eduardo Luna, Kayla Rivero, Tiffany Dinh, Aiden Frye, Iris Waugh, Tyler Allen, Wesley Baker, Zachary Lewis, Marisa Blunt, Matteo Mascarin, Nicholas Luzardo, Rami Roushdie, Zander Shultz, Mason Buchan, and Benjamin Winchester.
