Brian McDermott is a friendly face to many of the faculty and students at PSA, mainly because of his outgoing personality and approachable nature; and, when you look closer, it’s no surprise why. Mr. McDermott has been in the field of education going on 20 years; with experience at 4 other lowcountry schools, he’s deeply rooted in the spirit of Charleston’s students. He’s never wanted to do anything else, so it’s a perfect fit that he’s our new Vice Principal of Academics.

By the end of this school year, Mr. McDermott hopes for all of his students to know that he’s a compassionate soul, and that he has their best interests at heart. He also says that he’s “more than just [his] title”. He hopes that this outreach approach will ensure a good school year for everyone involved.

Mr. McDermott has several hobbies, but his favorite is spending time with his family. He has a wife who teaches Spanish at another lowcountry school, as well as two kids: Dante (6) and Amaya (5). Some other pastimes of his include reading, playing video games, connecting with friends, and listening to music. He describes his music taste as eclectic, with artists ranging from Miles Davis to the Wu Tang Clan.

As a final note, Mr. McDermott stated that he’s ecstatic to be here, and from what we’ve seen in the first few weeks, it seems that PSA is ecstatic that he’s here, too.
