Macey MacGloan, in 11th grade, is a new student at PSA and has already made a difference! She formed a club called “Ladies League'' which is a club all about empowering women and helping the community. Macey believes that educating people on feminism is a chance to help shape the younger generation to make a difference when they are older. The Phoenix interviewed Macey about the club, and what it’s all about.
Interview with Macey Macgloan, 11th-grade class president, and founder of Ladies League:
Q: What inspired you to start the Ladies League?
A: “Current issues inspire a lot of my ideas. Especially with Roe v Wade being overturned, it was a total push to make my idea a reality. Through all the people I’ve walked to, both genders, it seemed like women my age understand the issue but not the importance and relativity in solving the issue. Most of the guys are either oblivious to the severity of sexism in America or they believe that they are not part of the solution, or in the unfortunate case that I’ve often seen, they are not empathetic enough to help resolve issues.”
Q: What are your goals for your club?
A: “My goal for the club is to be able to first educate all people in the school and in my community on what it means to be a feminist, how they can aid the cause and be of support, and what feminism looks like in the future. We also want to have feminist speakers come in, volunteer, and fund for feminist non-profits.”
Q: What can people expect once joining the Ladies League?
A: “People will be able to expect a well-motivated and active environment surrounded by a community of caring people.”
Q: How can you join the Ladies League?
A: “You can join just by showing up to the meetings. They are held in Mrs. Sullivan's room on Wednesday during high school lunch. Anyone is welcome to join. You can also speak to me personally.”
If you are interested in empowering your classmates and supporting your community, come join the Ladies League. You will be able to participate in volunteer work, make a difference here at PSA, and have the chance to surround yourself with people who also want to make a difference.
